In July 2017 led by a passion for adventure and the outdoors, a longing to encourage Mississippians to engage in a more active and healthy lifestyle, and to help others foster a deeper understanding, appreciation, and respect for nature, the environment, and the Mississippi outdoors, Russell and his wife Candace opened Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures, a treetop aerial obstacle and zip line adventure park located in Winona, MS.
Building upon Old Mountain Outdoor Adventures' mission, vision, and success, as well as his passion for nature, the environment, education, conservation and preservation of the Mississippi outdoors and abundance of its beauty and natural resources, Old Mountain Arboretum was a logical expansion in Russell's vision, intent, and purpose for the use of his family's unique property.
Presently, Old Mountain Arboretum is a certified arboretum through the Mississippi Urban and Community Forestry Council and Mississippi's first ArbNet accredited arboretum in the Magnolia state.
